Basically, the mind/body connection means that our emotions affect our physical well-being.
We’d like to think that our emotions are just passing thoughts, but in reality, they are the result of different chemicals being released into our bodies. And they, in turn, release other chemicals into the body. Being stressed or angry for long periods of time creates chemicals, including cortisol, that wears down on certain organs and STIMULATES others…like your intestines.
Obviously, if you have irritable bowel syndrome, you don’t want any MORE stimulation of your bowels…you want less. So, in your case, the “connection” is that if you can learn to control your negative emotions and stress levels, you will improve on your irritable bowel symptoms.
