My vet says my cat has irritable bowel syndrome and might not get better. Is it true?

the vet gave it injections (I don’t know what) and I tried oral medications like bactrim, dexamethsone, augumentin and all that. And no milk. But there is no real improvement. What else can I do?
What I’m asking for is some advice from someone with hands on experience since this proves more useful than what a vet says.
