How can a person with IBS lower the bad cholesterol?
Tuesday, August 25th, 2009I know that eating whole grain will help lower the bad cholesterol, but for my sister who has Irritable Bowel Syndrome (whenever she eats whole grain, she gets diarrhea.), she has to stick with her white bread diet. At the same time her bad cholesterl is way too high. IAre there other ways to lower the bad cholesterol?
Is it likely that I have IBS even if I do not have any problems with diarrhea, or constipation?
Wednesday, August 19th, 2009I have constant gas and frequent but intermittent stomach aches. I have not been officially diagnosed with IBS or any other disease, but I have not seen a doctor regarding my problem. I will probably go see one soon, since the problem has gotten worse over the last year. I don’t seem to have any trouble digesting any particular kind of food and I do not eat much dairy. I definitely am not lactose intolerant, but I can’t rule out a different food sensitivity. I do often eat vegetables, beans, and other common sources of gas, but not in huge amounts. What do you think is wrong? And is IBS merely a diagnosis of exclusion?
Spastic Colon?
Friday, July 17th, 2009HELP!!!!!!! I HAVE BEEN DIAGONOSED WITH SPASTIC COLON SINCE 2003. I HAVE THESE ATTACKS THAT INCLUDE SEVERE STOMACH CRAMPS THAT I SOMETIMES PASS OUT FROM, DIARRHEA (5-7 DAYS A WEEK), SHORTNESS OF BREATH, RAPID HEARTBEAT, PROFUSE SWEATING WHERE I AM DRENCHED HEAD TO TOE, FEELING HOT, DIZZY, THEN CHILLED TO THE BONE WHERE BY BODY TEMP DROPS TO ABOUT 94 OR 92, MY STOMACH TO THE TOUCH TURNS ICE COLD. DOES THIS SOUND LIKE SPASTIC COLON TO ANYONE? DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THESE SYMPTOMS? I HAD MY GALLBLADDER REMOVED IN 03 WHEN THIS ALL STARTED, AS I WAS TOLD THAT WAS WHAT WAS CAUSING MY SYMPTOMS AT THE TIME. WRONG!!! EVERYTHING HAS GOTTEN WORST. I’VE HAD 5 COLONOSCOPIES SINCE 03, NO CANCER BUT A POLOP. 2 ENDOSCOPIES THE LAST ONE SHOWED DIALATED BLOOD VESSELS. MY STOMACH IS SO SENSITIVE I CAN NOT TAKE PAIN KILLERS OR 98% OF MEDS BECAUSE MY STOMACH WILL BLEED AND HURT AS IF IT’S BEING RIPPED APART. I SUFFER EVERYDAY IN PAIN. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? I AM AT THE END OF MY ROPE…:-(
I have tried over 30 different prescription’s with no help or relief. The last was belladonna which i could not function with.
Spastic Colon/Irritable Bowel & Anxiety?
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009Hi.
I’m in college, and in certain classes I have spastic colon and it makes really loud and embarrassing noises.
I’m pretty sure it’s triggered by anxiety, as it’s not followed up by diarrhea or any of the things attributed with intestinal problems.
I am wondering if I could possible have agoraphobia. I have severe social anxiety every time I leave my apartment, and in classes where I have spastic colon the anxiety is usually caused by a fear that something embarrassing will happen to me–i.e. needing to go to a bathroom and not being able to, saying something stupid, etc. But this anxiety is causing even more embarrassment because my intestines make strange and loud noises during class.
So I guess, a few questions:
* Is it possible I have agoraphobia?
* What’s the difference between agoraphobia and social anxiety?
* How do you prevent your innards from making such weird noises?
HELP!
Thanks to the bottom two. The answerer who recommended the Bible, however… the Bible is xenophobic, misogynist, homophobic, and elitist.
If you’re anything but a white, male, non-handicapped heterosexual who was “lucky” enough to have been born into a culture where Christianity was the dominant religion, I don’t understand how the Bible could do anything but GIVE you anxiety.
P.S. Don’t you think that it’s kind of convenient that your religion offers “solutions” to all of my problems. God gave people brains… God wanted people to use them… those people came up with medication. I would take chemo for cancer, not wait for some kind of answer to drop down from the clouds.
How can you tell the difference betweeb IBS and Celiac Disease?
Thursday, March 5th, 2009My stomach has been very weird since I was stationed in VA.
I saw a show about Celiac Disease and swore up and down that I was going through the same things.
I am always tired, I have constipation/diarrhea in alternation, sometimes I’m bloated, my allergies change (one minute I’m allergic to wheat and can eat dairy and then I am lactose intolerant and can eat wheat), my body really shuts down at times,…
It’s not so bad now but I begged my doctor to test me for Celiac and he told me I was overexaggerating and it’s just lactose intolerance. I wanted to smack him because I don’t even eat a lot of dairy products and I knew it was the wheat doing those things to me. Ironically, some months later, dairy products tore me up but the symptoms weren’t the same.
I had a colonoscopy, everything and all my test results came back negative. SO, how can you REALLY tell whether it’s IBS or Celiac?
What exactly is IBS and celiac disease? What are symptoms?
Thursday, March 5th, 2009Well anytime I eat a whole meal I have diarrhea really bad and a horribly upset stomache. I just want to know what those 2 things are. I know what IBS kind of is but not much about celiac though. Thanks so much for any help
what exactly do you mean by not being able to “absorb” food? What does this mean?
How do others deal with IBS?
Saturday, February 28th, 2009I have had IBS for 3 years. If I did not have kids I would cut out my own colon. I’m that desperate. I have eliminated everything from my diet. (I survive on toast only and yes i eliminated toast for over a week so it can’t be that.) I want to find a doctor to give me a colostomy. My kids are 8, 6, and 4 year old twins. Don’t blame the kids. I wonder if the ob did something wrong when the twins were born by c-section because my back hurt for a year after they were born. As soon as my back stopped hurting my IBS started. I have tried everything, medicines, natural remedies nothing works. I have given up on doc’s. Don’t say it’s stress. IBS is my only stress factor. I’m happy and calm as long as I’m not spending the day in the bathroom. By the way I have diarrhea about 5 days a month. (down fron 20 two years ago) and I’m never constipated. Please help.
How Can I know if my dog has Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Inflammatory Bowel Disease?
Wednesday, January 14th, 2009She has diarrhea, and has had it for a long time. she doesn’t have worms or enzyme insuffiecy. And how can I help her? I’ve already tried rice, chicken, keopectate, different kinds of dog food, and yogurt.
I’ve taken her to the vet alot! and have spent alot in tests and medication. the vet says its probably irritable bowel syndrome and that we should be careful about stressing her out, like don’t get her to excited.

About Self Healing Colitis And Crohns
Tuesday, July 15th, 2008Before we get into detail about whether self healing colitis and crohns is possible some background on the two conditions is needed.
Those who have Crohn’s disease or Colitis often don’t know it right away. These two conditions are often confused with Irritable Bowel Syndrome because the early symptoms are quite similar. Both conditions usually start out with diarrhea and abdominal pains, and that can indeed mimic IBS.
However, things can get much more serious, and bleeding from the rectum can occur. Both Colitis and Crohn’s are caused by inflammation in the digestive system, though Colitis is always in the rectum or colon only. This inflammation can be very severe, and can lead to bleeding, among other symptoms.
For many with these conditions it means taking drugs for the rest of their lives, and even surgery is a very real possibility. This leads many to wonder self healing colitis and crohns is a reality.
If you are lucky, you will have a mild case of Crohn’s or Colitis, and the symptoms will come and go. There may even be times when you are in remission, feeling perfectly healthy. When symptoms do come on, they may be mild and easily managed. However, some sufferers have symptoms so bad that their lives are altered completely, and they can no longer do the things they used to do. When that happens, a whole new way of living, and eating must be learned. These patients often have to take medications to help manage their pain and other complication.
No matter how severe or how infrequent your symptoms might be, you might ne interested if there is anything you can do to heal yourself. Your doctor might want you to have an operation, and that might clear up some of the problems, but it is rarely a cure-all for these conditions. You can a self healing colitis and crohns approach, but you should know that it might not work for everyone, and there are many different variables that you have to consider. For some, the path to healing lies with the foods that you eat, and even more importantly, the ones you don’t eat.
The belief behind self healing for these two conditions is that our bodies are fighting back against the over-processed foods that are so common today. In order to encourage healing and combat the cause of the condition a vegan diet is recommended. This means eliminating all meats, and focuses on eating more fresh fruits and vegetables. It is thought that once your body is getting the foods it was built do handle, it can work more effectively, and the problems with inflammation will melt away.
If you are interested in trying this, you can go out and find the book Self Healing Colitis And Crohns to see if it will work for you. There are many who say it helped them, and some that say they were completely healed after a few years. Your results will depend on how well you can stick to the program and the severity of your condition. You should always remain under physician care while you are doing anything like this, and remember to continue your medications if your doctor insists that you do so.
Hopefully, there may come a day when your self healing colitis and crohns regime has been successful and you can finally throw the drugs away for good.
